The Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) Istanbul

The Basilica Cistern is located next to Hagia Sophia in Istanbul's Eminönü district,it was made by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century.It was built to meet the city's water needs,and it is 138 meters in length and has a width of 64.6 meters.

It is the largest and most magnificent covered cistern in the city that the visitors are entered from the small building of West of St. Sophia square.Some are simply decorated, with most in Corinthian style column headings.

The water level would change according to the seasons.On the eastern wall of water pipes were given out at various levels.Floor cleaning is done for major repairs during 1984.When cleared more than 1 meter of mud, it was discovered the original brick floor and two marble Medusa heads are at the blocks column.With the help of  built road it has been able to walk around the cistern easily.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture affiliates Basilica Cistern run, is home to many national and international events, besides being a museum.

Tears column, wishes pool, fishes and the  Medusa Head is seeing the interest commonly.

The museum is like a movie scene also plateau like many international film.The last film in the James Bond series, "Skyfall" s some scenes were shot in this museum.
Basilica Cistern, Dan Brown's 'Hell' broke the all-time record of visitors after the book. 2 million people visited the Basilica Cistern in 2013.
